Genger Based issues in Epilepsy Management
When prescribing epilepsy drugs to prevent or treat migraine, physicians need to warn their female patients that these drugs may lessen the efficacy of oral contraceptives, reported Dr. Susan M. Rubin on February 19 at a headache symposium sponsored by the Diamond Headache Clinic Research and Education Foundation.
Migraine Preventative therapies
Preventive migraine treatment drugs can reduce migraine treatment costs for office visits, emergency department visits, CT scans, and medication use, however, patients should be warned of long latency periods and possible side effects, reported Dr. Mark Green on February 20 at a Headache Research Summit sponsored by the Diamond Headache Clinic Research and Education Foundation.
Distinguishing Between Migraine and Tension Headache
Episodic tension-type headache is the most frequent, but least distinct of the primary headache disorders in the general population, said Dr. Robert G. Kaniecki on February 20 during a presentation at the annual headache symposium sponsored by the Diamond Headache Clinic Research and Education Foundation.
Perimenopausal Issues and Migraine
Although the prevalence of migraine attacks decreases as women enter menopause and their estrogen levels decline, some women experience even more severe migraines when their orderly pattern of estrogen and progesterone secretion is lost, said Dr. Jan Lewis Brandes on February 19 during a Headache Research Summit sponsored by the Diamond Headache Clinic Research and Education Foundation.
Migraine Headache-Diagnosis and Treatment
The importance of diet to headache patients and how to avoid weekend headaches were just a few of the clinical insights shared by Dr. Seymour Diamond on February 18 during his opening address to more than 200 physicians at a Headache Research Summit presented by the Diamond Headache Clinic Research and Educational Foundation.
Biology of Migraine and other Headaches
The evidence for the role of cortical spreading depression (CSD) as a cause of trigeminal activation which, in turn, causes migraine pain and aura has gotten stronger, said Dr. Michael A. Moskowitz on February 18 during a headache conference presented by the Diamond Headache Clinic Research and Educational Foundation.
Exertional Headache: Uncommon, Usually Benign, but Worrisome
Uncommon and usually benign, exertional headaches nonetheless require a careful work-up to exclude potentially serious underlying problems, said Dr. Roger Cady on February 22 at a Headache Research Summit sponsored by the Diamond Headache Clinic Research and Education Foundation.
Vertigo, Dizziness Often Reported With Migraine, but Are They Related?
Because a significant portion of migraineurs also report having dizziness or vertigo at the same time as their headache, one of the first important features of diagnosis is to determine whether the dizziness or vertigo is connected with the migraine, said Dr. Jan Lewis Brandes on February 20 during a headache conference presented by the Diamond Headache Clinic Research and Educational Foundation.
